Biography

Pietro Locatto  received his music education under the guidance of Stefano Grondona and perfected his skills with Frédéric Zigante, Oscar Ghiglia and Lorenzo Micheli, receiving scholarships and special awards, including five Diploma di Merito from the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena.During his studies he was a scholar at the Associazione "De Sono" and he stood out by winning several international competitions in different countries, of which we would like to mention the first prize at the "Gianni Bergamo Music Award" in Lugano and at “Adelaide International Guitar Competition”.

Golden guitar as "youngpromise" at the Convegno Internazionale di Chitarra di Milano, he performed the Concierto de Aranjuez and the Concerto n.1 of Castelnuovo-Tedesco with the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic Orchestra of Parma and the Este Symphony Orchestra of Ferrara. Regularly invited to give solo recitals at international festivals, he has performed in Italy, Europe, Australia and Mexico.

His profound interest for Spanish music for guitar from the first half of the '900 brought to a first monographic album based on the work from Federico Moreno Torroba (Stradivarius) and a second album focused on the characters of Llobet, Asencio and Mompou, greatly received by the critics both in Italy and internationally (Rai Radio 3,American Record Guide, Discover Classical, Gendai Guitar, Guitar Classique,Musica, Amadeus…). His recording production was subsequently enriched with further projects ranging from Bach transcriptions, to the figure of Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Barrios and Matiegka. He collaborates on various chamber projects and in particular with the cellist Martina Biondi he created the Duo Evocaciones with the aim of expanding the repertoire for this duo in an original way. They made their debut with the recording of a program dedicated to the composers of Spanish impressionism with unpublished arrangements from Cassadó, De Falla, Albéniz and Granados and aroused the interest of musical seasons such as Unione Musicale, Lingotto Musica, Blackheath Chamber Music Festival, Newcastle Music Festival, Klassik I'm Grünen…

In 2019 he was the only guitarist to win a collaboration with the Teatro Regio of Turin. He has been interested in teaching for many years and he is currently working as a teacher at the Conservatorio in Trapani, besides being invited to hold masterclasses in several Italian festivals and other occasions.

Pietro Locatto plays instruments from his father, luthier Luigi Locatto, inspired by the historical tradition of Torres, Garcia and Simplicio.

Pietro Locatto si è formato musicalmente sotto la guida di Stefano Grondona e si è perfezionato con Frédéric Zigante, Oscar Ghiglia e Lorenzo Micheli ricevendo borse di studio e particolari riconoscimenti, tra cui cinque Diploma di Merito dell’Accademia Musicale Chigiana di Siena. Durante i suoi studi è stato borsista dell’Associazione “De Sono” e si è distinto risultando vincitore in numerose competizioni internazionali in diversi paesi, tra cui si ricordano il primo premio al “Gianni Bergamo Music Award” di Lugano e all’“Adelaide International Guitar Competition” in Australia.

Chitarra d’oro come “giovane promessa” al Convegno Internazionale di chitarra di Milano, ha eseguito il Concierto de Aranjuez e il Concerto n.1 di Castelnuovo-Tedesco con l’Orchestra Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini di Parma e l’Orchestra Sinfonica d’Este di Ferrara. Regolarmente invitato a tenere recitals solistici in festival internazionali si è esibito in Italia, Europa, Australia e Messico.

Il suo profondo interesse per la musica spagnola per chitarra della prima metà del Novecento ha portato alla nascita di un primo disco monografico sulle opere di Federico Moreno Torroba (Stradivarius) e di un secondo album incentrato sulle figure di Llobet, Asencio e Mompou ottimamente accolti dalla critica sia in Italia che all’estero (Rai Radio 3, American Record Guide, Discover Classical, Gendai Guitar, Guitar Classique, Musica, Amadeus…). La sua produzione discografica si è in seguito arricchita con ulteriori progetti che spaziano da trascrizioni bachiane, alla figura di Castelnuovo-Tedesco, di Barrios e di Matiegka. Collabora a diversi progetti cameristici e in particolare con la violoncellista Martina Biondi ha dato vita al Duo Evocaciones con l’intento di ampliare in maniera originale il repertorio per questa formazione. Il duo ha esordito con l’incisione di un programma dedicato ai protagonisti dell’impressionismo spagnolo con arrangiamenti inediti da Cassadó, De Falla, Albéniz e Granados e ha suscitato l’interesse di stagioni musicali quali l’Unione Musicale, Lingotto Musica, Blackheath Chamber Music Festival, Newcastle Music Festival, Klassik I’m Grünen…

Nel 2019 è risultato unico chitarrista vincitore per collaborare con il Teatro Regio di Torino. Da molti anni è attento all’insegnamento e attualmente svolge attività didattica come docente presso il Conservatorio di Trapani, oltre ad essere stato invitato a tenere masterclass in diversi festival e realtà italiane.
